This commission was a real fun challenge! Painting her involved combining my fish paintings with my dragon work as well as with the human figure and portrait work which I originally started out with! Such fun!

Under the Sea Step Stool
This step stool was a commission for a little girl named Lucy, It was so much fun to paint. Fish are so colorful! All the fish I painted are based on real sea life, except for the Mermaid (of course!). I included a wide variety of fish such as a Clown fish, a Tiger fish, gold fish and an Octopus. I also painted some Jelly fish, Angel fish, Sea Anemones, Starfish, a Sea horse and a Sea Turtle.
Frogs and Crabs and Fish on Stones
These little rocks were painted just for fun, although some were commissions. The crab and the fish are painted on smooth flat stones and are only a couple inches long. The Frogs are pretty much life size. And one is actually painted on a piece of lumpy concrete! Can you tell?
Scallops on a Faux Marble Lazy Susan
This was one of the most challenging subjects requested of me by a client. Scallop sea shells! I had no idea before doing research for this piece how varied Scallop shells were. A Special thank you to my seashell and starfish collecting friends for loaning me so many specimens as models! I especially enjoyed painting the insides of the shells. Particularly difficult were the grey toned shells from Cape Cod because the tops were dark while the deeper grooves were light colored. This made creating depth a real challenge. I am so pleased with the way the star fish came out, as well as some of the other kinds of sea shells! And the barnacles! They were great little details to paint. Since the underside of the lazy Susan (supplied by the client) was as finely finished as the top, it is just as easy to use upside down, therefore I painted it a faux pink marble as an alternative.
