This little footstool was commissioned as a companion piece to the Garden Fence Chest of Drawers. The Sunflowers and Hollyhocks are painted in the trompe l’oeil style of realism. They just pop off the surface! The legs of the stool are the same blue as the sky in the first piece and the faux white slats match those I painted on the top of the chest. Even the underside continues the illusion of slats. And, yes, I painted my signature insect; Can you see the lady bug? It is important that the little side buttons are painted white as they visually connect the top to the base, but I resisted the urge to painted anything additional on the blue surfaces because the stool told me No!!

Photo Spread in Rocks and Minerals Magazine
I am so proud to announce a three page spread of my artwork in a national publication: the September/October 2016 issue of Rocks and Minerals Magazine. More than a year ago I was contacted by the editors of this gorgeous magazine asking if they could showcase my work in their regular feature of artists whose art focuses on rocks and minerals. I was over the moon at the idea and am blown away with the results! Thank you to this wonderful publication and a special thanks to Susan Robinson for all her help in facilitating the process.
Home on a Hill
This is a portrait of a home which sits at the summit of a woodsy hill in Connecticut. It was a pleasure to paint! The front yard was of great importance to the owner of this house, however in reality this hill is so loaded with tall trees that the view of the architecture is severely obscured from the road. I simplified the trees but made sure to accurately depict and include all the huge boulders, the Mountain Laurel, Hosta, Hydrangeas, and of course the flags! I like to include critters where I can, so I placed a squirrel actively over looking the property as he clings to a tree trunk. I painted the deer, who are frequent visitors in this area, off in the distance. This piece is painted on a 20″ X 24″ wood canvas in acrylics.
Parrot Tulip Plaque
A longing for Springtime in the middle of winter inspired the theme for this 10″ wide plaque. I was charmed by the showiness of these rich pink Parrot Tulips when I first saw them. I tried to capture their intensity and make them leap above the accompanying standard yellow tulips growing behind them. The park-like scene is bordered with a metallic green band. Although this item is a commission, and therefore is sold, I am always interested in doing something similar for you if you are interested. Feel free to contact me through this site.
