Pansies are fun to paint; I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again!! For this custom project the client wanted Pansies painted on her two large metal platters which were bordered with a wooden rim (15″ diameter). I covered over their original motif with a grayish blue background color. And then I just had fun! Of course in addition to painting a variety of floral patterns and color variations, I put in buds and seed pods and wilted blooms along with a bee in each one.
These two plaques are a depiction of a friend’s comments about his stressful work situation. I painted the Elephant one a few years prior to the trapeze one. They are 8 1/2″ X 6 1/2″ each.
This lush fuchsia colored Rose is a just barely opened blossom painted in sharp focus against a diffused green background. The inspiration for this painting is a photo I took this past spring in the Rose Garden in Elizabeth Park, Hartford, CT. The purple butterfly is an ‘enhanced’ Common Blue. This plaque is painted with tea pots, a tea cup and saucer, a mug, and a cocoa pot all sitting on a wooden surface with doilies. The details are meticulously painted in my hyper-realistic style and are placed against an eggplant colored background. All the items depicted are from my own collection. The tall antique pot belonged to my late mother-in-law. The modern mug in the center shows a famous historical Japanese event. It had been years since I painted china and it was so much fun to revisit this motif. The wooden plaque is 13″ X 9″ and is bordered with golden paint.
