This child’s rocker is painted with lots of happy doodles of stars, stripes, dots, hearts and a few little flowers in shades of blues, greens, salmon and white. I painted energetic frogs leaping at dragon flies on both the front and rear backrests. Lady bugs creep along the runners. This very sturdy rocking chair stands 25″ tall and is 15″ across the backrest. The seat is wicker. It is appropriate for a girl or boy. For Sale at $125 plus shipping and handling.
Rocks and more rocks, painted hyper realistically in liquid acrylics!!! I returned to one of my favorite subjects in the summer of 2017 to paint this charming vintage table. There are at least a dozen heart shaped stones in the oval table top (30″ X 19 “). How many can you find? I’ll let you decide the total number as some are only hinted at! Of course there is a bug on one of the stones. The lower shelf is painted as a single slab of grey marble. The shelf is also painted on the underside so as to continue the Trompe L’oeil illusion. The legs remain their original dark brown stain but I added small grey diamonds to the graceful curves to visually connect the two painted surfaces. The table stands 29” tall and has a drawer tucked under the top tier. This piece is similar to a previously commissioned table named River Stones, and has recently been sold. This graceful small side table was brought to me by a client to embellish with Trompe L’oeil pearls and shells. She handed me a piece of striped fabric to guide my color scheme and I was off and running. I used a favorite bug pin from my own collection as a model for the ‘clasp’ on the casually piled string of pearls. The gold and garnet fly also represents my signature insect. The table top (27″ X 11″) is painted as faux marble in soft greens with just a few delicate lines threading through it. To keep the illusion of real marble, I even painted the underside of the tabletop, so it would look like an actual piece of stone when you turn the table upside down. Loose pearls of various natural hues sit in a shell on the lower shelf which is painted a solid Sea-foam blue.
This little footstool was commissioned as a companion piece to the Garden Fence Chest of Drawers. The Sunflowers and Hollyhocks are painted in the trompe l’oeil style of realism. They just pop off the surface! The legs of the stool are the same blue as the sky in the first piece and the faux white slats match those I painted on the top of the chest. Even the underside continues the illusion of slats. And, yes, I painted my signature insect; Can you see the lady bug? It is important that the little side buttons are painted white as they visually connect the top to the base, but I resisted the urge to painted anything additional on the blue surfaces because the stool told me No!!
