Faux “China” Cabinet

All this china is painted on the front of a simple jelly cabinet. There are teacups, teapots and lace doilies.  The door has two panels each of which I divided into two faux shelves.  I created some of the china patterns while other designs are from taken from well known patterns such as the teapot with the Cherub. Searching out china patterns was such fun!   The Chinese spoons are part of my personal collection. The green and pink spoon is very old and I tried to preserve that when I painted it. I added a ‘real’ Hydrangea blossom for a change of texture.  The jelly cabinet was originally found at a yard sale and likely started out life as unpainted furniture.  It came to me in pieces, painted half brown and half red. Now its blue with gold edging and is “filled” with faux china!   Open the door to find a surprise butterfly painted inside.  This piece is currently a focal point in my own living room.

Cloud chest withAutumn leaves

This vintage chest of drawers is painted on all sides with a summer sky full of clouds.  I rescued the dresser from the back of a garage where it sat badly damaged and painted bright yellow and orange along with words and peace signs.  I stripped it down and had some repair work done before starting my transformation.  For a little added interest I painted early autumn leaves on the top in a Trompe L’oeil style. Even my husband, who knows what I do, tried to brush these leaves away when he first saw them!   I painted a few leaves on the bottom of the skirt too. Did you find my signature insect?  Hint, it’s on a leaf!  Also, included in this cluster of photos is a second chest I did with a winter sky.  Can you see how the simple change in the depth of the blues changes the season?  By the way, the female body vase sitting on top of the chest is also a piece of my art work.

Ocean Chest

This cabinet is painted with an ocean scene which wraps continuously around all three sides . After receiving this commission I visited a cousin’s beach house and saw their entrance to the beach. I knew immediately that this was the perfect scene for this cabinet. The left side has a Sandpiper bird.  The right side is simple with just the sky, sand dunes and a few rocks piled in the sand.   Notice how the knobs are painted as part of the scene too.
